Moscow – President Vladimir Putin has declared that Russia is in “complete” control of the battlefield initiative in Ukraine, a claim he supported by announcing the seizure of nearly 5,000 square kilometers of territory so far this year.
Speaking at a meeting with his highest-ranking military officials, Putin projected an image of unwavering progress. He asserted that Moscow’s “complete strategic initiative” means it is dictating the terms of the conflict and that Ukrainian strikes within Russia cannot change this dynamic.
In contrast to Putin’s focus on land warfare, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has turned the spotlight onto the sea. He accused Russia of repurposing its oil tanker fleet for military intelligence and sabotage missions, a tactic he described as a serious covert threat.
Zelenskyy vowed a firm response, stating that Ukraine and its allies are actively developing a plan to counter these alleged operations. He expressed his certainty that “it is entirely possible to stop this.”
The geopolitical landscape was further strained by Putin’s explicit threat to Washington. He warned that if the U.S. were to supply Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, it would be seen as a major escalation requiring direct American military participation, a move that would demolish their bilateral ties.
