Ukraine Downs Dozens of Drones as President Calls for End to Russian “Aerial Terror”

by admin477351

Ukrainian air defense forces shot down most of the 96 drones launched by Russia in an overnight barrage, but some reached their targets, prompting President Volodymyr Zelensky to decry Moscow’s “aerial terror” and renew his call for an end to the war. He argued that the recent Gaza peace deal shows a clear path forward.
Zelensky provided a grim summary of the latest attacks, which included not only drones but also aerial bombs that struck a hospital in Kharkiv, injuring dozens. Energy facilities in other regions were also damaged, demonstrating Russia’s continued focus on civilian and critical infrastructure.
In the face of this onslaught, Zelensky is championing a new diplomatic strategy. He is publicly praising US President Donald Trump for his “outstanding achievement” in securing the Gaza peace plan, presenting it as a model for how to end the war in Europe. “The war in Europe can also be brought to an end,” he stated, attributing the possibility to strong US leadership.
This message has been delivered directly to President Trump in a phone call and is being coordinated with European allies like Finland’s President Alex Stubb. Zelensky claims to have a “corresponding vision” for peace, signaling he is ready to engage in a US-led process.
His ultimate plea, however, is for the tools to stop the “aerial terror” for good. He specifically requested advanced air defense systems from the US and G7 partners. For Zelensky, strengthening Ukraine’s skies is the most direct way to protect his people and create the conditions necessary for a lasting peace.
