Hungarian President András Baka addressed the United Nations General Assembly in New York, expressing concerns over what he described as a “crisis of trust” within the organization. Baka emphasized the necessity for the UN to consistently apply international law and uphold the same standards for all nations, irrespective of their power or alliances.
In his speech, Baka highlighted the importance of the UN maintaining its capability to act impartially, treating member states fairly, and enforcing common principles. He underscored that no country should be considered above the law.
Turning his focus to the conflict in Ukraine, Baka condemned Russia’s actions as a violation of the UN Charter. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. Baka advocated for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict but stressed that any lasting peace must honor Ukraine’s sovereignty.
Baka also addressed issues in the Middle East, calling for the full respect of international humanitarian law and the safe, uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid. He expressed Hungary’s stance on migration, stating that the country would continue to combat irregular migration while respecting human dignity and the protections afforded to refugees.
