by admin477351

Germany is exploring collaboration with Greece on future submarine construction, focusing on the advanced Type 212 CD submarines. This proposal was discussed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his Greek counterpart, Nikos Dendias, during a meeting at the Crete Firing Range. Pistorius expressed confidence in Greece as a reliable partner and indicated that submarine construction could occur within Greece.

The Hellenic Navy’s new submarine program is anticipated to be evaluated post-2030, with decision-making on new vessels expected to commence following Greece’s national elections in 2027. This timeline highlights the long-term planning involved in defense procurement and the strategic importance of these discussions for both nations.

During the meeting, Dendias emphasized Greece’s commitment to enhancing defense relations with Germany. This includes joint military training initiatives, improved operational coordination, the hosting of German forces, and the acquisition of compatible military equipment. Such measures are intended to bolster the defense capabilities of both countries.

The ministers also addressed cooperation between Greek and German forces in the Kosovo Force (KFOR), pilot training opportunities in Kalamata, and Greece’s interest in acquiring IRIS-T SLS air defense missiles. These discussions underline the broader efforts by both nations to deepen their defense cooperation and explore avenues for joint military production and training.

This dialogue between Greece and Germany signifies a mutual interest in not only strengthening defense ties but also in exploring practical opportunities for future military collaborations and technology sharing, reflecting a shared commitment to regional security and stability.
