Greece’s Economy to Grow Faster Than Eurozone Average Until 2028, Says Bank of Greece

Greece’s economy is projected to grow faster than the eurozone average through 2028, despite challenges such as rising inflation and high energy prices, according to the Bank of Greece. Economic projections suggest that Greece’s gross domestic product (GDP) will increase by 2% in 2026, 1.9% in 2027, and 2% in 2028, maintaining a stronger growth outlook than the wider eurozone.

In the second quarter of 2026, Greece’s economy expanded by 1.9% year-on-year, outpacing the eurozone’s 1.2% growth. The main drivers of this economic activity are expected to be household consumption, investment, and exports. Data for the quarter showed that private consumption increased by 1.7%, investment rose by 6.1%, and exports of goods and services grew by 2.2% compared to the same period a year earlier.

However, the rise in imports has outpaced exports, which limits the contribution of international trade to the country’s overall growth. To counterbalance this, strengthening domestic production and expanding Greece’s export capacity remain important priorities for sustained economic progress.

Rising inflation, particularly impacting energy and services, poses a risk to household purchasing power and could influence the economic outlook in the coming years. The Bank of Greece highlights these challenges as significant factors that could affect Greece’s economic trajectory.
