Greek expatriates in Saudi Arabia have expressed their support and pride in Greece’s military assistance to the Kingdom, viewing it as a positive step in strengthening bilateral ties and ensuring regional security. The deployment of Greek Patriot air defence systems to Saudi Arabia aims to protect key infrastructure, including energy facilities along the Red Sea coast, amid escalating regional tensions.
Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias recently visited the Greek military contingent in Yanbu on October 15, where he reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabian security. During his visit, Dendias engaged in discussions with Saudi leaders, focusing on enhancing defence cooperation and addressing regional developments.
For Greek residents such as Ioannis Barmpounis and Dimitra Chasapi, Greece’s involvement in Saudi Arabia’s defense holds personal significance. They maintain strong connections to their homeland while living in the Kingdom, and they emphasized the mutual trust and respect that characterize Greek-Saudi relations.
The military partnership between Greece and Saudi Arabia is seen as increasingly important due to concerns over missile and drone threats to strategic infrastructure. This collaboration not only fortifies Saudi security but also provides Greece with valuable operational experience in modern air defence systems.
Despite the regional tensions, Greek expatriates in Saudi Arabia continue to feel secure and hopeful that the cooperation between the two countries will extend beyond defence to include economic, professional, and cultural exchanges. They believe that such collaboration could contribute to regional stability, stronger diplomatic ties, and lasting peace.
