by admin477351

Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci met in Athens to discuss enhancing security cooperation between Greece and Türkiye, focusing on tackling cross-border crime. This meeting, held at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection, follows the Greece-Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council meeting in Ankara last February.

The discussions between the two ministers centered on addressing organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. A significant portion of the dialogue involved criminal networks that exploit undocumented migrants and engage in money laundering linked to illegal activities.

Chrysochoidis highlighted the need for improved information sharing and operational coordination between Greek and Turkish security agencies. He also expressed concerns over Turkish nationals allegedly connected to criminal groups operating within Greece’s borders.

Minister Ciftci acknowledged the current level of cooperation between the two nations and expressed his support for expanding joint efforts to strengthen security and disrupt criminal networks, particularly those involved in human trafficking.

This meeting underscores the continued efforts by Greece and Türkiye to enhance cooperation on shared security challenges, despite the longstanding differences between the two countries. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to working together to address these pressing issues effectively.
