Starting in September, the platform will label AI-generated artist identities with an “AI persona” tag on both artist profiles and track listings. This initiative aims to help users differentiate between real musicians and AI-created performers while mitigating the impact of AI-generated content on genuine artists’ exposure.
One of the significant changes includes the exclusion of AI personas from Spotify’s personalized recommendations by default. This move is designed to ensure that listeners have a clear understanding of the nature of the music they are being recommended, as the proliferation of AI-generated tracks becomes more widespread. To maintain transparency and trust with its user base, Spotify is allowing artists to voluntarily disclose if they are AI-generated. The decision to implement these measures comes in response to the rapid increase in AI-generated music. Spotify has previously reported the removal of 75 million spam tracks over a 12-month period, underscoring the influx of artificial and often low-quality content flooding music streaming services.
