Lidl Hungary has launched its largest logistics center in the country, strategically located in Kiskunfélegyháza, following an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, or approximately €162 million. This expansive facility, which spans over 83,000 square meters, is set to bolster the company’s supply chain capabilities by servicing around 70 stores across Hungary.

The opening of this logistics hub has had a significant impact on local employment, creating more than 400 jobs with plans to recruit an additional 50 workers soon. The center is outfitted with 194 loading docks and a refrigerated section covering 24,000 square meters. Lidl has also prioritized sustainability in the facility’s design, incorporating energy-efficient systems such as a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar array, alongside technology that recycles waste heat from refrigeration to provide underfloor heating.

In addition to the industrial features, a 10,000-square-meter area dedicated to biodiversity has been developed around the site, emphasizing Lidl’s commitment to environmental considerations. The Kiskunfélegyháza center is poised to enhance Lidl’s logistics operations nationwide, with projections indicating around 4,500 pallets of goods will be dispatched daily from the facility.

Lidl’s expansion and operational efficiency are further supported by its strong domestic sourcing strategy, with nearly 60% of the products sold in its 220 Hungarian stores being sourced from local suppliers. The new logistics center is expected to play a crucial role in Lidl Hungary’s growth trajectory, reinforcing its supply network and supporting future retail expansion endeavors across the country.
