Beyond the regional disputes, Erdoğan expressed Turkey’s desire to deepen its involvement with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization while maintaining robust ties with Western nations. During his visit, he engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and security in the Black Sea. Erdoğan highlighted the need for sustained security measures for commercial shipping, noting the increasing risks faced by Turkish vessels in the area.
The Turkish leader also touched upon defense collaborations with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, efforts to resolve the conflict with the PKK, and Turkey’s ongoing attempts to rejoin the US F-35 fighter jet program. Erdoğan affirmed Turkey’s commitment to developing its domestically produced KAAN fighter aircraft, even as negotiations with the United States continue.
